Dementia Friends Training: Virtual Event

Mesa is a Dementia Friendly Community !

Dementia Friends is a global movement with the goal of helping everyone in the community understand key messages about dementia, how it affects people, and how we can all make a difference in the lives of people living with the disease.

Mesa is a certified Dementia Friendly Community and we encourage Mesa residents and businesses to be involved.  Join us for a virtual one-hour Dementia Friends Information Session. This introductory session benefits professionals who engage with persons with dementia, such as in the healthcare or financial industries. In addition, residents gain the knowledge to help them understand and support persons living with the disease and their care partners.   

We can all make a difference.

This week, NPVC is joined by Senator Martha McSally. Senator Martha McSally proudly represents the people of Arizona in the United States Senate. She previously represented Arizona’s second congressional district for four years in the United States House of Representatives. Prior to serving in Congress, Senator McSally served 26 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 2010 as a full Colonel. She is the first female fighter pilot to fly in combat and first to command a fighter squadron in combat in United States history.

"Troubles Don't Last Forever"

Mona Dixon is no stranger to going through tough circumstances such as homelessness, but she overcame it and will be sharing her story of inspiration and encouragement with you!

About Mona:

Mona and her family lived on the streets and moved from one homeless shelter to another until the age of 13. A few short years later she was honored by
The President of the United States in the Oval Office. 

After receiving her coveted Boys & Girls Clubs of America "National Youth of the Year Award," Mona was appointed to serve as the youngest member of a U.S. Presidential Community Service Committee alongside four other distinguished individuals.

At 18, Mona was also named one of the "Most Influential Black Women," alongside Oprah and Michelle Obama, by Essence Magazine. This has all led to her being awarded over $100,000 in scholarships, sharing the stage with "A" list celebrities, being featured in the national media, and starring in a national campaign commercial with Mark Wahlberg.

Mona, at 27, is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in organizational leadership and empowering others while speaking for corporate companies, schools, youth organizations, fundraisers, graduations, parent organizations, and homeless shelters.
